T-shirt Design for a young girl

I have a bad habit, that is I couldn't stop when I start doing something.
This is another T-shirt I drew last weekend for a young lady who likes Jade Liu.

Cartoon Character are most easy to manage.
Anyone can try this at home.

Step one

Get the picture you like.
Part of this picture is from Jade Liu's fan site.
And if you are drawing your own design, do use a thick permanent marker so that colour does not run.

Step two

Lay the T-shirt (preferably a 100% cotton one) with a cardboard to give a firm base.
Slot your design into the T-shirt and smooth the fabric.

Step three

Trace the picture with a Fabric Maker. Here I am using Textile Marker by ZIG. This can be bought at any art shop and some bigger Popular Bookstores.

Step four

Mix the desire colours one at a time as the Fabric Paint dries fast.
Here, I am using FolkArt Fabric Paint, you can get them from any art shop.
This is the best fabric paint I have tried so far as the colour does not bleed.
Do not add water to the paint.
However, do dip the bush in clean water before applying the paint, so that it moves swiftly on the fabric.

Step five

Start colouring with the lightest colour. Do line a piece of tissue between your hand and the T-shirt, so that you do not rub your hand against the drawing.
Use light strokes to smoothen the colours.
Any uneven colours will look patchy after ironing.

Step six

To create a windy effect, brush a little light blue around the edge.
Use pulling movement and do not dip too much paint.

Step seven

Add in the background so that the drawing looks more prominent.

Finally

Finish off the picture with some touch ups.

Do wait for 24 hours for the paint to set.
Iron it to set further. Do not spray water when ironing and lay a piece of ironing cloth.

Do not iron it immediately, without waiting for it to set.
The colour will run after a few washes.

Now, you have a T-shirt Uniquely Yours.
